Please join the Narrative Center's Project on Asymmetric Narrative approaches as we host a presentation of a non-traditional approach to countering a violent narrative.

Sohail Shaikh, of the U. S. Army's Asymmetric Warfare Group, regularly deploys to advise the U.S. military and its partners on narrative engagement strategies. In 2010, Sohail advised U.S. forces on a program called “Voices of Moderate Islam” to help alleviate what they saw as a cycle of frustration in Afghanistan. Ultimately, the program enabled 33 pilgrims to travel from Afghanistan to Amman, Jordan and then to Mecca, Saudi Arabia to perform the Umra, or lesser Hajj. All 33 pilgrims then returned to their villages with a transformed narrative.
