Freedom House Interviews ICAR Professor Terrence Lyons
Ph.D., International Relations, Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies
M.A., History, Michigan State University
Freedom House analyst Jake Dizard spoke with him about Ethiopia and Eritrea, two volatile nations featured in Countries at the Crossroads. Prof. Lyons described Ethiopia as a state in which human rights remain tenuous, while noting that a 2005 political opening has raised the expectations of Ethiopian citizens. Eritrea, for its part, remains in the grip of a brutal ruling clique that exerts rigid control over political, social, and economic life.
