Almost four decades after its conclusion, the ’60s are officially over. According to a Harvard University study, the American professoriate may be less liberal and activist than assumed. The research suggests more instructors identify themselves as moderates than liberals. This trend accelerates as the professors' age decreases. When distributed over a seven-degree scale, the political orientation of the faculty members broke down as follows: “extremely liberal” 9.4 percent; liberal 34.7 percent; “slightly liberal” 18.1 percent; “middle of the road” 18.1 percent; “slightly conservative” 10.5 percent; conservative 8 percent; and “very conservative” 1.2 percent.
