Center for Conflict Studies

The Centre for Conflict Studies (CCS), a non-profit organization, has offices both in India and the United States (registration in process). Conflicts are inevitable phenomena; largely viewed negatively and which have the propensity to turn destructive very quickly. CCS focuses on the study and application of the right tools for managing conflicts and therefore, approaches conflicts as positive and as vehicles for change.

Advocating for nonviolent change, CCS emphasizes on research and practice to better understanding conflict and manage them effectively in order to bring changes to the current inequalities and social injustices. This requires acquiring knowledge about the conflict that maybe gained by learning through one’s own experiences and others’.

CCS believes knowledge immediately translates into action because, from the minute we comprehend, our thought process begins. Even if we choose not to exercise our voice or are unable to exercise our voice, knowledge is empowering. We at CCS believe that when human beings reach the point where knowledge brims over, action is inevitable. Our task is to create the space and the resources for knowledge acquisition.

Our slogan at CCS is “Knowledge as Action; Action as Change”

The Director of CCS is a faculty member at the Monterey Institute of International Studies; students at the Institute, especially those who study conflict resolution, are an integral part of the Centre. Current students and alumni play an important role in the running of CCS.
