The National Cohesion Integration Commission (NCIC) warned political leaders in Northern Kenya, against inciting their communities against each other for selfish gains. NCIC commissioner Dr. Roba Sharamo said the commission had noted with concern, the deep involvement of political leaders in the inter-clan clashes in some parts of the region.
They took issue with recent clashes in Balambala constituency, that left more than 5 people dead and animals stolen by ‘hired’ militia and that the commission was investigating the issue. Roba urged elders to play a critical role of being custodians of peace.
Commissioner Aden Mohammed said they will soon be holding a leaders conference that will bring together all leaders from the region with a view of identifying the gaps and ways of addressing the protracted inter-clan conflicts in the region.
