CENTER FOR PEACEMAKING PRACTICE
Weekend Training Courses; Academic Year 2016-2017

C.P.P. will conduct four weekend training programs down at Point of View during the Academic Year 2016-7. These will focus on developing students’ skills in facilitation and mediation, with a special emphasis on working within a small team of facilitators, helping to resolve conflicts using a technique known within the field as a “Problem Solving Workshop”. This was originally developed by – among others – John Burton, Herbert Kelman and Ronald Fisher in order to help resolve intractable and deep rooted conflicts, in which threats to identity play a major role. The trainings will thus link into S-CAR courses focused on Reflective Practice and with a number of on-going, practical interventions currently under way at S-CAR.

Introductory Course I. October 22nd-23rd  1-credit CONF 795 course for S-CAR masters and doctoral students; registration through normal GMU procedure. [Also open to AU students who can join through the Washington Consortium.] Maximum number 20. Faculty: Dr.Chris Mitchell, Dr. Ronald Fisher.
