Biography

Pinar Akpinar is a lecturer and vice director at Center for International Conflict Resolution at Yalova University, Turkey and a PhD candidate at School of Politics, International Relations & Philosophy (SPIRE), Keele University. She is also, Vice Coordinator of the Intellectuals Forum at the 4th UN Conference on the LDCs.

She received her BA degree in Mass Media from Yeditepe University, and her MA degree in Middle East Studies from Işık University in 2009. Akpinar also worked in various NGOs on areas of peace, democracy and environment including field studies in Armenia, Israel, Kyrgyzstan as well as Turkey. Her areas of research include Turkish Foreign Policy, Middle Eastern Peace Process, Conflict Resolution, and International Mediation.

Akpinar’s PhD research aims to understand to what extent Turkey's mediation differs from Western mediation approaches. She also focuses on the change in Turkish foreign policy in the last decade and the emergence of Turkey’s mediator role as a tool of foreign policy. During her visit at SCAR, she is continuing her research on her PhD thesis as well as writing an article on Turkey’s peace initiative in Somalia.
