Bridging Across Political Divides

 

 

Are you curious about the political views in our community? In April, Arlington campus will host three dialogues to help build mutual understanding and bridge across our community’s current political divides. These are intended to be opportunities to learn about the variety of political perspectives in our community, and to learn how people came to hold these perspectives. Each dialogue will bring together adults with a diverse set of political perspectives.

 

Master’s students from the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution will facilitate each dialogue, setting out a tone and process for the conversation that will allow each participant to learn how the others think, as well as to articulate their own perspectives. Dialogue is not debate; there are no winners or losers in this process. In dialogue, we learn from each other about the variety of perspectives.

 

All Mason students, faculty, and staff are invited to participate. Please RSVP to the particular dialogue you would like to join. Below is a list of the three dialogues, each of which is scheduled at a different time, has a slightly different focus, and has a different e-mail for RSVP. Please RSVP ASAP, as dialogues may fill up. As long as space is available, it is possible to participate in more than one dialogue. Please RSVP to each dialogue separately. We seek a variety of perspectives in the dialogues and an openness to hearing others’ perspectives, and thus ask that you send a sentence on your overall political orientation and openness to dialogue as you RSVP. After your participation in a dialogue is confirmed, the exact location of the dialogue on Arlington campus will be sent to you.
