The Expanding Middle East Protests: Analysis by Aziz Abu-Sarah
The Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution’s (ICAR) Aziz Abu- Sarah comments on the ongoing protests throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Having just returned from the area, Aziz-Abu Sarah discussed the rising anger over corruption, the price of food, unemployment, and lack of freedom as sources of the protests. Abu Sarah then reviewed and analyzed the unique situations in Bahrain and Libya. Noting that Yemen, Bahrain and Libyan governments are all repeating the same pattern of violent repression that Egypt did, Abu Sarah reflects on the potential success of such tactics.
